Rangers star Thelo Aasgaard may have a miserable World Cup tournament.

The Liverpool-born midfielder signed for the Gers last summer, but did not adjust to life at Ibrox until the latter stages of the campaign.

He still managed to earn a call up for the tournament in the United States, Mexico and Canada.

He has been involved in both warm up games, a 3-1 win against Sweden on 1 June and a 1-1 draw with Morocco on Sunday.

The 24-year-old did not play as much as he would have liked in those matches, and that does not bode well for the future.

What is Thelo Aasgaard's record at international level?

Rangers ace Aasgaard has been capped eight times by his country, but he has started just twice in those matches.

His only starts came in a World Cup qualifier against Moldova in March 2023 and a friendly against New Zealand in October 2025.

He has been on the bench nine times, but only came on six times when he was named as a substitute.

In the two warm-up matches, he featured for a total of 45 minutes, suggesting that he will not be a key player for the World Cup.

Examining his international record so far paints a worrying picture for the Ibrox man.

Why Aasgaard will be concerned about World Cup role

It seems as though Aasgaard will have to settle for an impact role from the bench in the competition, if he even makes it onto the pitch.

He is clearly not trusted to start, and it appears that Stale Solbakken is reluctant to hand him opportunities from the first whistle.

The Norweigians will be relying on the likes of Erling Haaland and Martin Odegaard to come up with magic moments, and the Light Blues ace will be an afterthought.

He may be able to force his way into the manager's plans, with good showings in training or cameos from the bench, but he will not have a starring role if his history at the international level is anything to go by.

The former Luton Town man looks set for more misery unless there is a drastic change from Solbakken in the coming week, which seems unlikely.
