Rangers star Nicolas Raskin summed up perfectly by Danny Murphy in Belgium draw
Rangers star Nicolas Raskin was introduced from the substitutes' bench in Belgium's opening World Cup match on Monday evening.
Raskin came on for the final 35 minutes of the contest at Seattle Stadium, with his side a goal down at that point.
The 25-year-old looked to constantly get on the ball and saw Mohamed Hany put into his own net to cancel out Emam Ashour's opener.
Belgium were unable to find a winner in what was an entertaining Group G clash.
While Raskin was not directly involved in the leveller, and could not help his side find a winner, he did have a couple of promising moments.
One of those moments was hailed by Danny Murphy during BBC's live coverage of the match.
Nicolas Raskin does starting chances no harm for Belgium
Raskin looked to be playing mainly as a holding midfielder once coming on, even dropping as the deepest Belgium player at one point.
He also cropped up on the right-hand side and stayed more advanced as Egypt sat deep.
The Rangers player's big moment arrived in the final five minutes or so in Seattle.
A cross was sent into the box for Romelu Lukaku to get on the end of, but his header was off target.
Murphy described that cross as "wonderful", which pretty much sums up Raskin in a nutshell.
The lingering fear for Rangers fans is that Raskin catches the eye at the World Cup and is the subject of bids this summer.
Raskin's performance vs Egypt in numbers
The former Standard Liege player will perhaps be disappointed he did not start the match.
He had a good half an hour on the field, however, and had a respectable 27 touches during that time.
He created one chance - that header for Lukaku - and completed 14 passes.
Of those 14 passes, 10 were played into the final third. That showed Raskin's ability to help generate attacks from deep.
Just as impressively, Raskin registered two tackles. Only Timothy Castagne (four) managed more for Belgium, despite the Gers ace being a second-half sub.
Thanks to that cameo display, it may well be that Raskin now starts against Iran in Belgium's next match on Sunday.
