Rangers: Sky Sports journalist shares new title verdict as ‘impossible’ Celtic claim made

Celtic are still in the driving seat for the Scottish Premiership title as Rangers still need to earn points from their game in hand.

That is according to Sky Sports journalist Sahil Jaidka, with the Ibrox club taking on Ross County in that game in hand.

The Gers welcome the Staggies to Ibrox on Wednesday (14 February), with a win by three goals or more sending them top of the league.

When discussing who is favourite for the title, Jaidka wrote for Sky Sports: “If only football was that simple! A few months ago, the answer was Celtic but now it really is impossible to call.

“The Hoops are still in the driving seat and have the points on the board which Rangers still need to earn from their game in hand at home to Ross County.

“Both clubs will then have eight league games to navigate before the split, including another Old Firm clash. On top of that, there's a Scottish Cup quarter-final on the horizon, plus three Europa League games for Rangers before April 13.”

Rangers closing in on Celtic

It has been a remarkable turnaround for the Ibrox club, who looked down and out under Michael Beale not so long ago.

But a stunning run under Philippe Clement has helped them close the gap to just three points, with Rangers now able to go past their fierce rivals for the first time under the Belgian if they can achieve the right result against Ross County.

And it perhaps couldn’t be a better fixture for the Ibrox club, with the game coming at home, and against a side really struggling at the bottom end of the table. The hosts are currently second from top in the Scottish Premiership, with the visitors second from bottom.

Clement will undoubtedly be wanting as professional a performance as possible under the lights in Glasgow, with the man in the dugout definitely wanting three points above all else, with a win by three or more goals simply a bonus.

In other Rangers news, Clement held talks with the Gers board after an “atrocious” recent incident at Ibrox.
