Former Celtic Under-18s manager Stuart McLaren is among those to congratulate James Fowler on his appointment at Ibrox.

Former Kilmarnock player Fowler announced on LinkedIn that he is now Rangers' Head of Academy Scouting and Recruitment.

The 43-year-old takes over from Phil Cowen, who departed to take up a new role with English Premier League leaders Arsenal.

In reply to a post on Fowler's social media page, as per The Scottish Sun [14 March], McLaren said: "Congratulations James. All the best in your new role."

Former Rangers goalkeeper Cammy Bell said: "Congratulations pal, all the best in the new role."

Who is new Rangers employee James Fowler?

Fowler has previously managed Queen of the South and had caretaker spells in charge of Kilmarnock and Sunderland.

The former midfielder, who played over 400 games in his player days, therefore seems more than qualified to take on this role behind the scenes at Ibrox.

Fowler most recently worked as Kilmarnock's Head of Football Operations, which is effectively the same position as he now has with Rangers.

Rangers
There have been plenty of behind-the-scenes changes at Rangers since Philippe Clement was appointed.

Having lost his position with Killie due to internal restructuring, it is good to see the former Scotland Under-21s international back in work.

This is the latest in a number of new appointments at Ibrox as the club revamp their transfer stricture for the better under Philippe Clement.

Like those before him, there is no reason why Fowler cannot also be a success once he gets his feet under the desk and gets to work.
