Rangers have no specific timescale in place when it comes to appointing their new manager, according to Sky Sports.

The Gers parted company with Michael Beale on October 1 and have since whittled down their shortlist to two possible candidates.

It has been widely reported that Kevin Muscat and Philippe Clement are now battling it out to land the top job at Ibrox.

Rangers

Rangers return to action at home to Hibernian on October 21, but the club will continue to take their time over naming Beale's successor.

Sahil Jaidka said in an update provided on Sky Sports' website on Friday (13 October): "Rangers are holding further talks with Philippe Clement and Kevin Muscat as the club look to appoint a new manager.

"Sky Sports News understands those discussions will continue this weekend before a final decision is presented to the wider Rangers board to sign off on an appointment.

"While it is thought Clement or Muscat could be in the dugout for the visit of Hibernian on October 21, Sky Sports News understands no specific timescale has been put on naming a new boss, with the club focusing on making the correct long-term appointment."

Taking their time

It is fast approaching two weeks since Beale was sacked, and yet the search for a new manager still goes on.

When you factor in that the pressure had been seriously mounting on Beale for a good few weeks before he was eventually axed, you would have thought the turnaround would have been a lot quicker.

But the club cannot be overly criticised for taking their time on what is a hugely important appointment.

Rangers

This will be the Gers' fourth different manager in the space of two years, having seen Steven Gerrard, Giovanni van Bronckhorst and Beale come and go in that period.

Whether it is Clement or Muscat, this has to be an appointment for the long term - years rather than months.

With just a week to go until the Light Blues are back in action at Ibrox, let's just hope a final decision is soon reached.
