Rangers have reportedly made a fresh approach to re-sign Josh Windass from Wrexham.

Windass spent two full seasons at Ibrox and notched 19 goals in 73 games total, before joining Wigan Athletic in the 2018 summer transfer window.

The 32-year-old was wanted by Rangers in this winter's transfer window, but Wrexham knocked back that approach.

However, the Gers are clearly still keen on striking a deal in a move that Danny Rohl is said to be behind.

With Lawrence Shankland already about to join Rangers, a new update has now been shared on a possible move for Windass.

Danny Rohl eager to reunite with Josh Windass

Windass played down talk of a return to Rangers when asked about the speculation earlier this year.

But it is clear this is a deal Rohl is eager to explore, having worked with the attacker at Sheffield Wednesday.

As per journalist Ben Jacobs via X on Monday evening, Rangers have now made a fresh approach for Windass.

Jacobs adds that the move is driven by Rohl, though club-to-club talks have yet to begin for the Huddersfield Town academy graduate.

Wrexham made clear they were unwilling to sell Windass in January, but it is unclear if that stance has now shifted.

What did Windass previously say about Rangers return?

Speaking to talkSPORT in March about the transfer talk surrounding a Rangers return a couple of months earlier, Windass laughed and said: “I don’t know who you heard that off. Stop trying to cause trouble on here.”

The much-liked player was never going to give a direct answer, of course, but the re-emergence of this transfer chatter shows that there is clearly something going on behind the scenes.

The speed in which Rangers have all but completed a deal for Shankland over the past few days is a credit to Andrew Cavenagh and Co.

It is clear they are not messing around after a dreadful first season in charge at Ibrox.

And in Windass, who scored 16 goals and assisted five more in the Championship last season, they have another piece to Rohl's title-winning jigsaw.
