Rangers loanee Thelo Aasgaard told he can be 'one of the best' as Belgian media rave over Anderlecht show
Thelo Aasgaard made his seventh appearance for Anderlecht on Thursday after leaving Rangers on loan.
Having fallen out of favour with Derek McInnes, the 24-year-old attacking midfielder fled Ibrox in the summer.
The Norwegian international only moved to Govan in last year's summer window, but struggled to stay consistent and was a divisive player amongst fans.
Belgian giants Anderlecht decided to take a chance on him, penning him to a season-long loan contract.
Anderlecht also have the option to make his stay in Brussels a permanent one should they choose.
His latest opportunity to show them why they should do that came in the Europa League on Thursday evening.
Belgian media rave over Thelo Aasgaard's Anderlecht performance
It was matchday three in the Europa League this week, and it saw Anderlecht face an opponent Rangers got familiar with this season too.
Jagellonia Bialystok defeated Gers over two legs in their Europa League qualification tie, before progressing into the competition proper.
Aasgaard even started both of those games for Rangers against the Polish outfit in August, so he's fully accustomed to how they operate.
He again started against them on Thursday night in a 3-0 win for his team, but this time as an Anderlecht player, and Belgian news outlet Walfoot were left dazzled by his display.
"The Norwegian delivered a standout performance in this 'false six' role, displaying nonchalance and excellent ball protection," they wrote.
"It was impossible to take the ball from him. Can he replicate this kind of performance against a top opponent?
"If so, he will be one of the best players in the league. Seven."
So, just how good were Aasgaard's underlying numbers against Jagellonia, and do they back up the claim around him having league-best potential?
How many shots did Aasgaard take against Jagellonia?
Aasgaard is still to win an important role in Anderlecht manager Vito Bruno's Belgian Pro League side.
Indeed, the Gers loanee has made three league outings for the Purple and White, but none of those have been starts, culminating in a mere 43 minutes of action.
He has been a key part of their Europa League squad though, starting all three of their league phase games so far.
Jagellonia was his best performance in the competition by some distance too, as detailed in his numbers via FotMob.
Aasgaard completed 32 of 34 pass attempts successfully (94 per cent), created one chance and took two shots on goal, both of which were blocked.
Meanwhile, he took four touches in Jagellonia's box, played three passes into the final third, completed one dribble and won two tackles.
He also made two recoveries, one clearance, one interception, won five ground duels and two in the air, as well as winning two fouls.
Aasgaard didn't provide a goal contribution on Thursday night, but his impact in the game was felt all evening long in what was a top display.
