Rangers' on-loan star Nasser Djiga made the switch to Ibrox when his parent club Wolves were a Premier League club, but that's not the case anymore.

Wolves sent Djiga out on a straight loan deal until the end of the season with the Bears, as they thought they had enough quality at the back to stay in the top-flight.

A horrid start to the season under Vitor Pereira left the club at the bottom of the Premier League, before Rob Edwards took over and lost his first seven games in charge, making relegation seem a certainty.

Now, Gers will be delighted to hear that Wolves' relegation from the English top-flight was confirmed on Monday, meaning the club are due for a fire sale.

Rangers are keen to keep Djiga permanently, but currently have no option to buy in his loan contract.

Who is Rangers' competition for Nasser Djiga?

Rangers have been tipped to sign Djiga for £8million, with the centre-back's potential at Ibrox sky high.

It's believed that Danny Rohl is a fan of the defender, who himself may want a permanent stay at Rangers following the relegation of his parent club.

The reality is that the 23-year-old is too good to play in the Championship, and after being deemed not good enough to play in the Premier League this season, he looks to have ironically outgrown Wolves.

This means that he could force a move this summer, which is music to the ears of Rangers fans, but the 49ers may face competition from his former side, Red Star Belgrade.

It's said that the Serbian giants have a 10 per cent sell-on clause for the player they sold to Wolves, which could give them a slight financial advantage to re-sign their former defender.

However, it would be no surprise to see Djiga's heart firmly in Glasgow with Rangers, as negotiations with Wolves may take place this summer.

Why another loan could be likely

Wolves will now have parachute payments in the Championship, which gives them the license to spend heavily in a bid to regain their Premier League status at the first time of asking next season.

Relegated Premier League clubs often loan out some players while they battle for promotion once more, with some then playing a part for the team once they get back up.

That could be the case with Djiga, who Wolves may not want to sell on a permanent basis. It's unlikely that Burkina Faso star will settle for the Championship, but another loan spell could appease him.

Time will tell, but Gers will assess the possibility of bringing him back to Ibrox for good this summer.
