Rangers defender Leon Balogun may never play at Ibrox again as an injury update has emerged on him on 8 May.

The 35-year-old, who suffered a back injury against Kilmarnock on 5 May, does not have a fixed timeline for his return.

Now, a possibility has emerged of the Nigeria international not returning again before the end of the season.

Discussing his situation exclusively with Ibrox News, Brar, a doctor in physical therapy and a sports scientist, said:

The best case here would be a mild back injury and he responds well to treatment and training, not missing any games.

However, given the manager’s comments, it’s fair to rule him out of the next one at least.

The worst case would be a back injury that is, his nerves irritating him and these can be longer-term.

There does remain a possibility of him not returning this season.

Rangers may be forced to make pragmatic Leon Balogun decision

Given Balogun's age and the fact that his contract with Gers is set to expire in the summer, there is a significant possibility that he may never play for the club again.

At 35 years old, the Nigerian is approaching the twilight of his career, and the combination of his age and the end of his current contract means that the club may opt for younger players or look to invest in new talent.

Furthermore, Balogun's recent injury setback, with a potential long-term issue with his back, may also impact his chances of returning to the pitch for Rangers.

The club may be reluctant to renew his contract under these circumstances, especially if they are looking to rebuild or refresh their squad for the upcoming season.

It would also make sense to get him off the payroll if he will encounter further injury issues and perhaps look to bring in a new centre-back over the summer.
