The Belgian FA approaching Philippe Clement over talks for the manager job could be convenient for Rangers, according to the Daily Record.

The website reported [18 November] that the Gers manager is currently under pressure from the Ibrox faithful, with supporters growing unhappy with the nine-point gap in the Scottish Premiership table.

It is understood, however, that a final decision is expected to be made on Dominico Tedesco's future when Vincent Mannaert starts his new role as sporting director on 2 December.

Mannaert has a history with Clement, having worked together at Club Brugge and lifting two Belgium league titles, which has seen him become a frontrunner for the job.

Rangers to let Philippe Clement go as Belgium come knocking?

An amicable split between the manager and the club could certainly be how Clement's tenure at Ibrox comes to an end, even despite all of the pressure currently on his shoulders.

Belgium wanting to replace their current head coach with Clement would give the hierarchy an excuse not to sack him after extending his contract in August.

The hierarchy clearly wanted to show that they backed him, even with the poor results and the gap emerging between them and their Old Firm rivals Celtic, but they may now see that as a mistake.

Rather than admit to that, with the boardroom already coming under a lot of heavy criticism for some of their decisions, the Belgian FA coming in for the manager might work well for all parties.

The main issue would be finding someone to replace the current manager, with the likes of Steven Gerrard and Ally McCoist being linked with returns to Ibrox.

It remains to be seen exactly what Clement's views are on the current situation, but with the amount of abuse that he receives each game, it would not be a total surprise to see him up and leave.
