Giovanni van Bronckhorst has named his Rangers XI to take on St Mirren today (December 26), knowing his side will end the calendar year atop the SPFL table.

Due to the winter break being brought forward, this will Gers' last game until January 19 when they take on Aberdeen.

Today's game is set to have only 500 fans in attendance and they will be hoping to go into the break with a comfortable six-point lead over Celtic.

John Lundstram, Nathan Patterson and Scott Arfield have been dropped with Borna Barisic, Joe Aribo and Scott Wright coming in.

Good form

GvB has enjoyed a fantastic start to life at Rangers and would like to go into his first winter break comfortably.

His side are undefeated in all competitions and certain players appear to be playing with a newfound positivity.

Under Steven Gerrard, while the results were impressive, some players were stagnating.

It's not been an easy job for the Dutchman but he deserves a high score for his start to life at Ibrox.

There certainly will be tougher challenges that lie ahead, but one cannot complain about what he's achieved thus far.

St Mirren should not pose any real threats, but it is important that they start this one strongly.

Hopefully, they can score three or four goals which can then help boost their goal difference.
