Rangers: Belgian media react to 'massive' Nicolas Raskin despite World Cup defeat vs Spain
Rangers star Nicolas Raskin was immense in Belgium's World Cup quarter-final defeat to Spain.
The Red Devils crashed out of the tournament after a 2-1 loss in Los Angeles in heartbreaking fashion with an 88th-minute winner for the European Champions.
Fabian Ruiz had opened the scoring after half an hour on Friday, but Charles De Ketelaere equalised before the break.
However, Raskin and his countries hopes were dashed by Arsenal's Mikel Merino in the closing minutes.
While he won't care right now, Raskin is getting a lot of praise in his home country for his display in the devastating loss.
What did Belgian media say about Nicolas Raskin vs Spain?
It is safe to say Raskin impressed his national media once again despite the scoreline.
Nieuwsblad were thrilled by his display, and handed the Gers star an eight out of 10 rating, saying: “Was in the right place on several occasions to nip Spanish threats in the bud. Consistently looked to play forward during transitions.”
DH Les Sports gave him a seven and a half rating, saying: “He played with fire in the 20th minute by losing the ball just outside his own penalty area, allowing Yamal to get a first shot off. Otherwise, he covered a lot of ground to plug every gap. He put in another massive performance.”
VoetbalNieuws were not as impressed by his showing, handing him a rating of six.
They said: “Was able to recover some balls occasionally, but also struggled in the first half. Had to work very hard, but played a good second half.”
Derek McInnes may not be loving all of the appreciation for his star midfielder, though.
Why Raskin's latest display leaves Rangers with a problem
The Belgian star's performances at the tournament leave McInnes and the hierarchy in Govan with a dilemma.
They will never have a better time to sell, as his stock is extremely high, and his contract will have one year left next summer, which should decrease the potential sale value.
However, if he stayed at Ibrox, he would probably be the best player in the squad, and potentially help the Light Blues get their hands on the title.
The money may well prove to be too much to turn down, especially after how he has put himself on the radar in North America during the competition.
The 49ers Enterprises and Andrew Cavenagh's ambitions are to get the Gers back to the very top, though, and keeping the 25-year-old may serve them best.
It is not an easy decision to make, as the replacements that would be signed if he departed would not necessarily improve the squad, and could leave McInnes' side lacking once again.
