Rangers backed to sign Motherwell sensation Lennon Miller over Aberdeen ace Connor Barron

Derek Ferguson

At the start of 2024, former Rangers star Derek Ferguson agreed to become Ibrox News' newest pundit. Ferguson started his career at Ibrox, making his league debut for the club aged 17 in a draw against Hearts in 1984. He eventually left Rangers in 1990 after making 91 league appearances and winning two Scottish titles. Ferguson went on to play for the likes of Hearts, Sunderland and Falkirk before retiring after a spell at Raith Rovers in 2006. Now, Ibrox News is delighted to have the former midfielder sharing his weekly thoughts on all things Rangers.

Derek Ferguson would rather Rangers pursued a deal to sign Motherwell's Lennon Miller than Connor Barron from Aberdeen this summer.

The Light Blues have been tipped as potential destinations for both youngsters, with Steven Davis retired, Jose Cifuentes departed already, and Ryan Jack possibly on the way out.

Ex-Ibrox midfielder Ferguson admits both are talented youngsters in his old position but with Fir Park teenager Miller one of the brightest talents in Scottish football he is deemed to have the edge on his exit-bound Pittodrie counterpart Barron.

And he doesn't feel it is unrealistic for the Light Blues to work out a deal that would be acceptable to both sides.

Ferguson exclusively told Ibrox News: “Again, like Lennon Miller, [Barron's] a good player without a shadow of a doubt.

“Trying to compare the two of them I just think Lennon is a better rounded player, I think Connor just lacks a little bit defensively. But that’s why you play in a team because your teammates can cover for you in certain departments.

“Listen, they’re two good young boys without a shadow of a doubt. If I had the choice of the two of them I’d be going for Lennon Miller every day of the week. I just think there’s a lot to like about him.

“You’ve got more of a chance with Lennon. With Motherwell a deal could be struck which would be good for Motherwell and good for Rangers.

“I’d be inclined to go more down that route.”

Rangers
Ryan Jack may be leaving a space in the Rangers midfield this summer.

Time for Rangers to make a move for Fir Park star?

Philippe Clement's plans for the summer transfer window are likely to be extensive after taking over midseason and having to revive an uneven squad that appeared to have been left weaker for Michael Beale's summer recruitment.

A number of the signings have emerged to become key men under the Belgian, but despite a potential domestic treble on the cards with the current playing staff the manager is sure to want to make more changes.

Mohamed Diomande's big-money arrival in January ultimately headlined a window where a big-name striker was anticipated, although a deal for Lawrence Shankland could still happen.

John Lundstram appears to be staying but Jack's possible exit will still leave a gap, although with Miller potentially worth leaving to develop for longer at Motherwell a deal could potentially still see him loaned back to Fir Park.
