Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has seemingly attempted to play down the superb form shown by Rangers in the title race.

The Gers moved above their Glasgow rivals into top spot in the Scottish Premiership for the first time this season last weekend.

Philippe Clement's men have been next to perfect since the Belgian succeeded Michael Beale in October.

Rangers one of European football's most in-form sides

From the last 57 points on offer, Rangers have collected 53 of them to initially put some pressure on Celtic and then overtake them.

Yet in the view of Rodgers, Rangers are not top of the table because of their own form but rather because his own side have dropped off slightly.

"We're not top of the league because of ourselves and the points we've dropped," Rodgers told reporters, as per Glasgow Times [23 February].

"But we have to learn from that and be focused on our own performance.

"It's getting back to making sure we focus on ourselves because we can't control anything that Rangers any other team does.

"I've said it all season we can only focus on our own team performance. That's what the next 12 games will be.

"It's still in our hands what it is we achieve this season so we have to focus on that."

Rangers v Celtic Old Firm clash approaching

Rodgers is technically not wrong in saying Celtic's title hopes are in their own hands, as there is another Old Firm fast approaching.

Rangers manager Philippe Clement
Philippe Clement has overseen an excellent turnaround at Rangers.

However, this remarkable turnaround at the summit is more down to Rangers' impressive run than anything else.

Celtic have won six of their last eight games, drawing the other two, which is hardly disastrous form but enough for the Light Blues to pounce on.

If the Gers do go on to win this thrilling title battle, it will be down to the work of Philippe Clement and the players, rather than anything that happens with Celtic.
