Nico Raskin has sent former Rangers teammate Abdallah Sima a message after he scored for Brest in the Champions League.

The Senegalese forward, who spent the 2023/24 season on loan at Ibrox, got on the scoresheet with a second-half strike as the French side ran out 2-1 winners over Sturm Graz on Thursday (19 September).

Sima's goal ensured that Brest secured all three points in their maiden Champions League tie and the 23-year-old was quickly inundated with praise, including from former Light Blues teammate Raskin after the full-time whistle.

Taking to Instagram on Friday (20 September), Raskin reposted Brest's photo of Sima with the player of the match trophy, captioning the story: "Simaaaaaaaaa" followed by a red heart emoji.

What happened to Abdallah Sima after Rangers and Ibrox exit?

The Rangers support was disappointed to miss out on signing Sima again this term, but Raksin's comments suggest that the players may well have been just as gutted the forward didn't return to Ibrox.

Although injuries prevented the Senegal international from performing in the second half of the season, the 23-year-old was one of the Light Blues best players when fit and would have been an excellent permanent addition.

Unfortunately, Sima's value is only going to increase with goals like that in the Champions League.

If the Gers couldn't afford to sign him permanently from Brighton last term, that is unlikely to change next season.

Hopefully, the likes of Oscar Cortes, Vaclav Cerny and Rabbi Matondo will be able to provide similar quality out wide and a combination of Cyriel Dessers, Hamza Igamane and Danilo will be able to find the net consistently.

Sima may be missed at Ibrox, but there are players in Clement's squad more than capable of replacing him.
