Danny Rohl is among a host of names to be linked with the Rangers job, with Patrick Stewart keen on a new permanent manager.

The San Francisco 49ers' takeover is imminent and they will have the final say on who the permanent manager is.

Kevin Thelwell, who has joined from Everton, is also playing a key role in the managerial search.

Rohl could now make new manager shortlist

According to Sky Sports, Rohl, the Sheffield Wednesday manager, is understood to be under serious consideration.

His future at Hillsborough is still uncertain, so a move this summer could be on the cards for the German.

It's understood that he could make the final shortlist as there are no frontrunners currently.

Several clubs in England are also keeping tabs on the 36-year-old, so they would have to fend off competition to hire him.

Stewart is understood to want to wrap the process as soon as possible to have the new manager in place for transfers and pre-season.

Rangers need to move to the next level of their managerial hunt

There have been multiple managers been linked but it’s time that they narrow down their options.

Rohl certainly would be an interesting choice, although his track record at Wednesday is far from impressive.

Davide Ancelotti would be an ambitious and exciting appointment, akin to Steven Gerrard, who had not held a number one role elsewhere prior to Ibrox.

Fans too will want some clarity as will some players who will be considering their futures at Gers.

The next few weeks should reveal who the next permanent manager and hopefully, he’s backed and given a say in the transfer market.
