Pat Bonner in disbelief at what Emmanuel Fernandez got away with in Rangers vs Celtic - 'Oh my word'

Emmanuel Fernandez more than played his part as Rangers comfortably saw off fierce rivals Celtic in their Premier Sports Cup quarter-final tie.

Dan Neil and Kevin Kelsy scored their first goals for the Gers, with the former going to on bag a second, to earn a 3-0 win at Ibrox on Sunday afternoon.

Fernandez thought he had got his name on the scoresheet just after the hour mark, only for the offside flag to go up.

It marks a fifth win in a row for Derek McInnes' side in all competitions, with this undoubtedly the best result and performance of the campaign.

The clean sheet was a welcome bonus and there can be no debate over who the better team was at a raucous Ibrox.

But Celtic great Pat Bonner was not happy with one moment in particular in the first half involving Rangers defender Fernandez.

Fernandez was brilliant, as were the entire Rangers squad.

However, the Nigeria international did get away with one in the first half when dragging Celtic winger Sebastian Tounekti to the ground.

Bonner, speaking on BBC Radio Scotland's live coverage of the match, exclaimed "oh my word" after Nick Walsh failed to blow his whistle.

Peter Lovenkrands also accepted it should have been a foul against Fernandez as he said: "That's 100 per cent a free kick."

Rangers fans were annoyed Fernandez's goal was chalked off, while Kelsy's goal was also given a close look.

Ultimately, both sets of fans will feel they were hard do by at times in terms of the officiating.

It must be said, though, that Celtic did have a strong penalty shout rejected in the first half when Olwethu Makhanya brought down Kasper Hogh.

A red card could also have easily been dished out for a poor challenge on Ryan Naderi.

Ultimately, thanks to the margin and manner of the win, Rangers fans will be more than content with Walsh's display on the day.
