Nicolas Raskin will be vital for Rangers next season after Derek McInnes highlighted what he wants to see from his players.

The newly appointed Rangers boss addressed the press for the first time on Wednesday, while being quizzed on several factors of his job.

Recruitment was brought up, as were his ambitions as the Light Blues' boss, with the Scotsman making it clear that he is here to win trophies.

However, in doing so, McInnes also revealed what he looks for within his players to achieve that success.

Of course, the Gers stumbled at the last hurdle under Danny Rohl last term, having now failed to win the league title ever since Steven Gerrard departed the club.

And for McInnes to avoid a similar fate next time out, he has highlighted why Raskin will have a crucial role to play, albeit without naming him.

Why Nicolas Raskin will be a success under Derek McInnes

Raskin has been a success under every manager throughout his time at Rangers, though he may step up a level under McInnes.

Speaking at his press conference, McInnes said: "It takes more than being a good player to succeed at Rangers," and that statement has held true for several seasons.

As for Raskin, not only does he possess the technical ability needed to win silverware at this level, but he also has the aggression and work rate that has been a common factor of a typical McInnes team.

The Belgian featured in 33 of their league encounters last season, managing six goals and seven assists.

If he can replicate that level of ability, while also living up to the standards set by McInnes from a character and attitude perspective, then there is no reason why Raskin can't be a major driving force behind success next season.

What is the latest on Raskin's exit from Ibrox?

Of course, for the midfielder to play a key role at Rangers next season, he has to be at the club to do so.

And as per recent reports, there remains a chance that he won't be.

Italian outlet Tuttomercatoweb reported on Wednesday that Bologna are eyeing a potential move for Raskin.

However, with two years still left on his deal at Ibrox, Rangers will maintain hope that he will be performing at the highest level once again in Glasgow next season.
