Michael Stewart questions what Alan Hutton just said about Celtic and Rangers

Rangers are finally starting to hit their stride under Derek McInnes.

It was nothing short of a shocking start for the new manager at Ibrox, and he'll admit that himself.

Picking up one point from his first two Scottish Premiership matches and crashing out of Europe completely, rock bottom was close.

But, things have finally started to change.

Wins over Aberdeen, Falkirk and Motherwell have catapulted Rangers back up the table, with the games coming thick and fast.

St Mirren are next before two crunch games with Celtic, and Alan Hutton was already looking at the latter.

Can Rangers prove themselves vs Celtic?

That is what every manager is judged on in Glasgow, their ability to dominate in the Old Firm.

Hutton believes that will be the ultimate test for the new Rangers side, and McInnes will already know that.

Speaking on Premier Sports' Scottish Football Social Club, the former Ibrox defender revealed what's next.

"Sometimes, when I look at Celtic, they look very fluid and it's really sharp," he said. "It's clicking and you can see something really building.

"I feel that Rangers aren't as far ahead as that at this moment in time."

Quickly, Michael Stewart latched onto those comments and poked fun at the comparison between the Old Firm already.

"Why are you always talking about Celtic?," he butted in.

That's the ultimate comparison, and the only one that matters.

Can Rangers really beat Celtic?

Ask this question two weeks ago, and the answer would have been absolutely not.

The win over Motherwell saw real genuine progress for the first time this season, dominating a side known for their attractive play.

Ask anyone, and they won't have been convinced fully by the wins at Aberdeen or Falkirk, for comparison.

McInnes has finally settled on the spine of his team, and that helps massively, especially in these huge games.

Having a repetitive back four, as well as small rotations in midfield.

The only issue is the injury picked up by Lawrence Shankland, who joins Youssef Chermiti as a long-term absentee.

Can new signings like Kevin Kelsy and Badredine Bouanani show their magic on the biggest stage, too?
