Meet Jim McAlister, the former Rangers kitman set for Ibrox return after £13k court case

Rangers look set to continue adding to Derek McInnes' staff with Jim McAlister returning to Ibrox.

The set-up of the new Rangers boss has begun forming over the last few weeks as pre-season gets underway.

McInnes will certainly want to start the season off as well as possible, and bringing back familiar names has been a common theme.

Ross McCrorie, who previously played for the Gers, has been signed, while Allan McGregor is reportedly set to link up with McInnes.

And now McAlister is set to join those two as returning Ibrox men.

McAllister's backstory with the Govan-based club is quite something, after a previous rift between the kitman and Rangers.

Who led the reconciliation between Rangers and Jim McAlister?

The return of McAlister will be met with a positive reaction as supporters were not best pleased at how he left the club in the past.

McAlister had previously worked for Rangers from 2021, where in 2022, following the death of legendary kitman Jimmy Bell, was promoted to that role.

However, he would then leave in July 2023 with it later emerging he was sacked by the Ibrox club.

McAlister took the Gers to court over his exit, and won his "unfair dismissal" case, with Rangers having to fork out £13,000 as per the Daily Record.

But bygones appear to be bygones as McAlister looks set to return to Rangers as the kitman under McInnes, according to a report by Rangers Review on Monday.

Jim Gillespie has reportedly led those talks, which have been described as "positive" allowing McAlister to return to work for his boyhood club.

McAlister had most recently been working with the Scotland national team at the World Cup, but will leave that role ahead of joining up with McInnes.

He also followed Steven Gerrard to Al-Ettifaq following the end of his first spell as the Ibrox kitman.

Will Rangers add more backroom staff?

McInnes' overhaul will seemingly not stop at the return of McAlister as Rangers Review also share another incoming may arrive.

Set-piece coach Scott Fry has left Rangers, and the Glasgow club are reportedly looking to find a replacement.

Whether that can be confirmed before the start of the Scottish Premiership remains to be seen.

Either way, the backroom staff is shaping up nicely for McInnes, and supporters will undoubtedly be getting excited ahead of the start of the season.
