Manchester United will hold an enquiry after Rangers fans were alleged to have gotten hold of tickets in the home end at Old Trafford on Thursday night.

Rangers supporters made their way to Manchester en masse for their side's Europa League clash on 23 January but some who couldn't get tickets for the away allocation at Old Trafford ended up getting in anyway.

After Cyriel Dessers' goal, fights seemed to break out around the stadium with Man United fans alleging on social media that away fans celebrating that goal caused the issues.

One video clip shared by @BLVCKUTD on X, shows what seems to be a Rangers fan being attacked by angry home fans.

Man United officials to hold enquiry after Rangers debacle

Former Premier League and FIFA-listed referee Keith Hackett claims that while it's difficult for Man United to police who's getting tickets in the home sections of Old Trafford, there will be an enquiry taking place at Old Trafford after the unsavoury scenes on Thursday.

"The sale of tickets and the allocation of seats inside the stadium is carefully planned and monitored," Hackett told Ibrox News.

"I have no doubt that the UEFA Match Delegate will have witnessed what happened and it will be highlighted in his post-match report. This will include photographs that he has personally taken with the camera that UEFA supply.

"It is difficult for Manchester United to police if their fans who have purchased tickets sell them on. Manchester United will no doubt be conducting an enquiry this morning with their experienced ground safety officers and the ground commander.

"This is the usual process after a big game.

"Man United, like all our professional clubs, take very seriously any security breaches."

After Jack Butland's own goal, many Gers fans seemed to think Dessers had scored a goal that secured a vital point in the 88th minute.

However, Bruno Fernandes netted in the second minute of stoppage time, leaving Philippe Clement's side dropping down to 13th in the Europa League table and effectively ending their hopes of a top-eight finish.
