Rangers will have their hands tied as Stuart Kettlewell dropped an update on Lennon Miller during the January transfer window.

The Gers have been eyeing the 18-year-old to bolster their ranks as he continues to shine in the Scottish Premiership [Daily Mail, 13 November].

In the 2024/25 season, the Scotland Under-21s international has broken onto the scene, scoring four goals and providing six assists in 26 appearances in all competitions.

Unsurprisingly, top European teams are vying for the midfielder's signature, with Liverpool also interested [CaughtOffside, 9 December].

The Light Blues pulled off a masterstroke in the summer of 2024 with the addition of Connor Barron and could once again do so with the Miller signing.

Stuart Kettlewell all but confirms Rangers decision on Lennon Miller transfer

The 18-year-old has developed well over the years and has shown massive potential, but a January transfer looks unlikely after his injury.

Speaking to the media [BBC Sport, 2 January], Kettlewell said: "He's going to be longer than a month. He's got a hairline fracture in his ankle, which is going to keep him out for an extended period of time.

"He's done this twice now. With Lennon being Lennon, he tried to stay on. Last season, he had a fracture in his patella but tried to finish the game.

"But in getting that yellow card, it looks like he's sustained a pretty significant injury, which is going to keep him out somewhere around six to eight weeks."

With the 18-year-old out for several weeks, Rangers will almost certainly wait for the summer to pursue him.

The Gers have enough quality in the middle of the park after the re-emergence of Ianis Hagi and the addition of Mohamed Diomande a year ago.

Nicolas Raskin was also outstanding as the Light Blues beat Celtic 3-0 at Ibrox on Thursday (2 January).

The Bears should prioritise strengthening their backline after the injuries to John Souttar and Leon Balogun.

While Robin Propper scored in the Old Firm derby, the Dutchman has been inconsistent this season, and the Glaswegian outfit could use another centre-back.

As for Miller, Nils Koppen will undoubtedly look to get him to Ibrox in the coming months, but it certainly will not be in January.
