Mason Cotcher could be a player targetted by Rangers chairman John Bennett after what he said about the club's recruitment strategy, according to Robbie Copeland.

Writing on the Daily Record website on Tuesday (14 November), the journalist said the Ibrox chief doubled down on his intent to buy low and sell high when the Gers' accounts were released on Monday (13 November).

But Copeland added that the Light Blues may have to "move fast" to sign 17-year-old Cotcher after the Sunderland forward has recently been on trial with Arsenal.

Difficult

This is a transfer that could be difficult for Rangers to pull off after the Sunderland Echo originally linked the club with a move for Cotcher on 23 October.

The England youth international scored one and assited another goal for Arsenal's youth team against Crystal Palace before starting in a recent 4-3 victory over Norwich City.

It appears as though the Gunners are firmly in the driving seat to sign the teenager, with fellow Premier League side Brighton also believed to be interested in securing his signature.

But the Gers are not out of it yet and he is certainly the kind of player that fits the profile of future additions Bennett wants to make at Ibrox.

The biggest advantages in the Light Blues' favour is the fact they could potentially offer him a quicker route to the first team and Glasgow is much closer to Sunderland if location is at all a factor for the forward.
