Jamie Carragher has switched allegiances from Rangers to Celtic when asked to pick between the two Old Firm sides.

The former Liverpool captain was asked to choose back in 2020 and he opted for Gers as his ex teammate Steven Gerrard was at the helm.

However, he has now changed his tune and picked the Hoops when asked about it by Michah Richards.

As CBS Sports' Champions League coverage on 18 September, Richards asked, as quoted by Football Scotland: "Celtic or Rangers", to which Carragher responded. "I'm Celtic."

In 2020, the former England centre-back said: "Right now it's Rangers because of Steven Gerrard but as soon as Steven leaves it'll be Celtic."

Rangers under Steven Gerrard were a different kettle of fish

Under Gerrard, Gers exhibited a transformative energy and ambition that set them apart and they went on to win the treble and were unbeaten in the league.

His tenure was marked by a rejuvenation of the squad with tactical acumen and a fighting spirit, reminiscent of his playing days.

This era saw Rangers not only win the elusive 55th league title but they also displayed a competitiveness that hinted at potential Champions League progression.

The team's style was more dynamic, with a clear identity that leaned on high pressing, quick transitions and a never-say-die attitude.

Currently, this Gers side seems a shadow of its old self but hopefully after the recent window and Philippe Clement getting the players he wants, they may go on to become a force once again.

Right now, there still is the gulf between them and rivals Celtic that needs to be eradicated as soon as possible.
