James Tavernier was Rangers’ hero on Saturday as he rescued a point for the Gers in a 2-2 draw against Dundee United.

While improvements were there, many of Rangers’ stars underperformed at Ibrox, in what was a frustrating afternoon.

It looked like a convincing victory was on the cards when Thelo Aasgaard slammed the ball into the net in the first half to give the Gers the lead.

However, a terrible second half saw Dundee United take a shock lead before Tavernier had to step up to rescue yet another result for the hosts.

Yet, despite the full-time whistle being blown, the drama did not end there.

While the performance wasn’t terrible, it was yet another game where Rangers failed to pick up three points at Ibrox this season.

Now Russell Martin has been sacked from Rangers, the players have nowhere to hide as the poor results keep coming.

The fans have continued to be vocal about their frustrations at Ibrox, as their dreadful season continues, and this was no different against Dundee United.

At full-time, when going over to clap the fans, Tavernier was spotted in dialogue with the Union Bears.

PLZ Soccer on 18 October, caught the incident on video, with the captain eventually walking away in dismay.

Rangers’ players have no confidence

In the first-half, Rangers looked like more of their former selves, and should have been 3-0 up at half-time.

Yet, as soon as Dundee United scored, you could see the hope and the belief in the players dwindle as they went from dominating to chasing a game they should easily win.

If Kevin Muscat does become the new Rangers manager, he has a massive job on his hands to fix this mess.

Champions League qualification has to be the goal, with the title now surely out of sight.

It will no doubt be a big ask, but if Muscat can provide consistency and confidence to these players, it is doable.
