Rangers captain James Tavernier has sparked confusion after posting a series of Instagram stories on his profile from the Maldives, as shared by the Scottish Sun.

The publication reported [8 August] the intriguing timing of the posts, with one image from the set shared on 7 August taken at a Gers-themed club on the islands on what appears to be from a family holiday back in the summer.

Tavernier has played the full 90 minutes in each of his side's two competitive games so far this season, including against Dynamo Kyiv in Poland in midweek.

The skipper, who is now into his tenth season at Ibrox, has been the topic of fierce transfer speculation with links to both Turkiye and Saudi Arabia still surfacing.

Tavernier's Rangers future is both a curious case and a dilemma for the remainder of this transfer window.

The Gers captain is 32 and has two years left to run on his current deal, with no concrete talks in place for an extension - for those reasons, it would be argued the Light Blues would attempt to offload the right-back for a decently sized fee.

However, the vast turnover in Philippe Clement's squad over the summer and a huge chunk of experience lost from the dressing room means Tavernier's leadership is perhaps more vital now than ever.

Some consistency must be maintained and that could be a primary reason for Clement still including Tavernier as a key figure in the squad, maybe beyond the 30 August deadline.

It's a topic which has split the fans for some time and there is clear interest from abroad in Tavernier - not least from Steven Gerrard's Al-Ettifaq - so the coming weeks are certainly to keep tabs on regarding the skipper as to whether now is the time for a fresh start.
