James McFadden dumbfounded by 'crazy' thing he saw Cammy Devlin do in Rangers win vs Aberdeen

Cammy Devlinn caught the eye of James McFadden for the wrong reasons as Rangers earned a much-needed win over Aberdeen.

The Gers came into Sunday's contest at Pittodrie in a state of complete disarray after embarrassment in the Conference League.

Rangers were beaten 1-0 by Jablonec in the second-round tie, and went out on penalties after the aggregate score finished 1-1.

That meant Rangers missed out on European football altogether this season, and followed the Bears failing to win their opening two league matches of the season.

But Rangers got off the mark in the Scottish Premiership thanks to Lawrence Shankland's thumping second-half penalty to earn a 1-0 win.

It was a game littered with niggly fouls, and one from Rangers midfielder Devlin left McFadden dumbfounded on co-commentary.

What did Cammy Devlin do in Rangers vs Aberdeen?

Anyone who knows Scottish football knows that Devlin can be a bit of a card hunter.

Indeed, he missed out against Jablonec last time out after being sent off in the first leg at Ibrox.

Devlin, 28, has yet to fully convince the Rangers faithful that he as the quality required to be a regular in a Gers shirt.

And his needless scything tackle on Mitchy Ntelo midway through the second half when the Aberdeen was going nowhere was a bit baffling.

Certainly McFadden thought so when he analysed thec challenge during commentary for Sky Sports Football.

McFadden said: "Crazy, crazy from Cammy Devlin.

"He's going nowhere Ntelo. Watch how heavy his touch is, he doesn't need to make that foul."

Is this a turning point for Rangers and Derek McInnes?

While it was not the brightest moment from Devlin, the important thing is that Rangers got the three points.

Anything less than a win would have really ramped up the pressure on Derek McInnes, who still has a lot of work to do to win over the Rangers fans.

It was so nearly another miserable day for McInnes too, with Kevin Nisbet nodding home late on, only for the goal to be ruled out after an intervention from VAR.

When your backs are against the wall, sometimes you need a break, and certainly McInnes will have breathed a huge sigh of relief.

This absolutely has to be a turning point for McInnes and Rangers now. It was far from perfect, but it is something to build from.
