IFAB law means Rangers fans need to give up right now after Collum response

Rangers were denied a penalty in extra-time of the Premier Sports Cup final loss to Celtic in a controversial VAR mistake.

SFA referee chief Willie Collum has slammed the decision, saying that it was "unacceptable" and the VAR officials involved have been punished.

There has been precedent to replay the contest, in Philippe Clement's homeland of Belgium, Genk successfully appealed for a replay of a league game against Anderlecht due to a VAR error using Law 14.3 of the IFAB rules.

However, calls to do so are ridiculous and should not be taken seriously.

Rangers need to move on

The Light Blues need to move on from the disappointment of losing to Celtic in the final.

They will be rightfully aggrieved by the error but at the end of the day they conceded three goals in normal time and missed their chance to win the contest in the penalty shoot-out.

The IFAB rules law 5 states that: "The decisions of the referee regarding facts connected with play, including whether or not a goal is scored and the result of the match, are final."

Therefore it is unlikely that the match would be replayed anyway but the Bears should get over it and take the anger into their next clash with their arch-rivals.

They should focus on the fact that they scored three goals and were able to come from behind twice against the best team in the country at the moment.

Focus energy on a replay would be a waste of energy, especially when that can be transformed into momentum to take forward and improve their season.
