Olwethu Makhanya has been given immense praise since signing for Rangers this summer.

The South African international has deserved it too, looking like a Rolls Royce at the back for Derek McInnes.

Signed for only £3million from Philadelphia Union, he's already been backed to deliver serious profit at Ibrox.

But, it didn't look like that at Dundee on Saturday.

Rangers were forced to settle for a 2-2 draw at Dens Park, ending a run of seven consecutive victories.

And Makhanya didn't leave with the glowing praise that we've come to expect of him every week.

What was said about Olwethu Makhanya?

Kris Boyd wasn't too impressed with many of the Rangers squad, but his mentions were interesting.

Dan Neil was obvious after losing the ball for Dundee's equaliser, with Makhanya and Emmanuel Fernandez called out, too.

Speaking on Sky Sports Scotland after the draw, Boyd wasn't too impressed with Makhanya's decision-making.

"I think Makhanya has got to go with him as well," he said about the first goal.

"When he sees that run, he's got to back his pace. We've seen it elsewhere, he'll track the runner.

"There was a couple of times in the second half, when he tried to step up and play offside, and Fernandez was deeper than him.

"So, it just shows you that yes, they've had plenty of plaudits, but if you don't do the basics properly, you can come unstuck."

What's been said about Makhanya so far?

It's maybe helped him that Fernandez has looked fragile for most of the season, but Makhanya has been classy.

His ability to stop attackers effortlessly, while also carry the ball forward has been a real weapon from the back.

The only thing that could have made his season better was if that volley away at Celtic had counted.

But, he didn't look great on Saturday.

Why Olwethu Makhanya could be on his way out of Rangers already after win vs Celtic

Allowing his man to run the channels far too many times, losing aerial duels and too slow to react for the first goal, it's somewhat of a reality check.

The immense praise and seen people suggest Makhanya could be sold for up to £30million.

He'll need to do much more to prove that after Dens Park.

But, we will all back him to do just that, with some big games coming up towards the end of October.

This was a learning curve and reality check, and not just for Makhanya, but the whole squad.
