Badredine Bouanani was given a helping hand by Dundee to score his first Rangers goal.

The Algerian came in from the start at Dens Park and certainly made his presence felt in the 2-2 draw.

It was just his second Scottish Premiership start since his surprise summer loan move from Stuttgart.

The 21-year-old replaced Kevin Kelsy in the side and made it look like the right call from Derek McInnes.

He was one of the bright points as the Gers threw away a 2-1 lead to drop two points on the day.

Bouanani grabbed his goal with aplomb, but why was he able to do so?

Badredine Bouanani benefitted from Dundee failings

The winger is famed for featuring off the right before cutting in onto his stronger left foot.

That is what gave him such a positive profile in his days at OGC Nice before moving to the Bundesliga.

The Ibrox faithful had been truly yet to see that from the attacker, but they certainly did against the Dark Blues.

Bouanani had two bites at the cherry but eventually curled a perfect effort into the top corner from the edge of the box on 42 minutes.

The away end was left stunned, but former Rangers man Richard Foster pointed out that Dundee actually made it all possible.

Speaking live on BBC Sportscene on Saturday, he said: "These are the two Dundee midfielders. Look how deep they are. So, when the ball comes to the edge of the box, where they should be, there's no pressure on the ball.

"Take nothing away from the finish, it's an absolutely outrageous goal. That's wonderful. He was the only one who looked lively in the first half for Rangers."

That shouldn't go against Bouanani as we assess his overall performance at Dens.

The hosts may have left the door open for him to score, but the Algerian still had to find the finish.

That was just one of his three shots which weren't blocked as he maintained a 100 per cent accuracy with those.

He also created one chance and had the most touches in the opposition box on the pitch with seven.

Bouanani attempted three dribbles before also showing his qualities going the other way with three defensive actions and two duel wins.

All that is only made better knowing that he found the net for the first time in a Rangers shirt.

McInnes will be keen to see him kick on now as the summer signing adapts to the Scottish game.
