Football finance expert Kieran Maguire has taken a swipe at Celtic supporters on social media following his comments about the fiscal health of Rangers.

Speaking as a guest on the BBC Scotland Sport podcast earlier in the week, Maguire detailed the finances behind the scenes at Ibrox.

But his financial analysis was met with much derision from Celtic fans, ahead of the two clubs going head to head in the Scottish Premiership on Saturday (8 April).

Taking a swipe at Celtic fans, Maguire posted on Twitter: “Have just asked ChatGPT ‘Where are football finance specialists based in the UK?’

“The answer was ‘Sheffield Hallam University 2, University of Liverpool 2, Portsmouth University 1, East end of Glasgow, 60,000.”

Ongoing rivalry

The fierce rivalry between Rangers and Celtic has been going on for as long as any living fan can remember, and it will definitely never end, with supporters of each club happy to jump on any headline or discussion involving the other.

Despite his reputation as a well-respected football finance expert, Maguire’s comments were still met with much criticism from many fans in the East End of Glasgow, where Scottish giants Celtic are based.

Rangers, based in the West End of the city, will not listen too much to the criticism amid the positive update from Maguire, who stated that the Gers are “moving from a recovery phase following what happened many years towards trying to get to a position where it is sustainable on a long term basis,” according to Football Scotland.
