Ex-Scottish Football Association referee Steve Conroy has called for a "lifetime ban" on Rangers woman's coach Craig McPherson after his headbutt on Celtic manager Fran Alonso.

The women’s Old Firm ended 1-1 in dramatic circumstances with Rangers' assistant causing chaos on the pitch after the full-time whistle going over to Alonso and headbutting him from behind.

The 4th Official Twitter account labelled the footage "embarrassing" with many speculating that a hefty ban or even worse repercussions may be on the cards for the assistant coach now.

And the Get Involved Referee Twitter account posted that Conroy, speaking on the podcast [28 March] has called for McPherson to receive a "lifetime ban" for his actions.

They tweeted:

"Our referee Steve Conroy calls for lifetime ban on Rangers women's coach Craig McPherson for head-butting Celtic manager Fran Alonso during last night's SWPL match.

"Conroy says there's no mitigation for this thuggish behaviour and McPherson should face the full consequences."

Atrocious

That is simply atrocious behaviour from McPherson and he should really be handed a full punishment to the full letter of the law for his actions.

Headbutting anyone on any given day is grounds for assault, and he has no excuses, whether he was over-passionate or angry, there are simply no explanations for what he's done.

rangers

It is simply embarrassing behaviour and the Rangers woman's assistant coach should be ashamed. What message is that sending out to younger viewers hoping to get into the game, especially through coaching? Not a good look.

What on earth was McPherson thinking? Not only in one of the biggest games of the season for Rangers Women but also when the Sky Sports cameras were rolling. A lifetime ban or even a sacking may be a really cruel and harsh punishment according to some, but it is one which is perfectly understandable.

McPherson has simply gone and ruined his career with this stupidity.
