McDiarmid Park will host the Dundee versus Rangers clash if it cannot be held at Dens Park, according to The Courier.

The game has already been called off on two separate occasions over the past month, much to the frustration of Philippe Clement.

Dundee will have a third go at hosting the match on Wednesday (17 April), but plans are now in place if the pitch proves unplayable again.

The Courier reported on Sunday (14 April) that McDiarmid Park, the home of St Johnstone, is now locked in as the back-up venue.

A pitch inspection will be held at Dens Park on Tuesday (16 April) and a decision will be made then, giving both sides time to prepare.

Dundee have had two goes at hosting this match and have therefore lost the privilege of home advantage if they cannot get it on this time around.

Making Rangers travel down for the game on two separate occasions is farcical. As Clement said earlier this week, no other credible league in Europe has this problem.

As a reminder, five games have been called off at Dens Park this season due to a waterlogged pitch. This is not down to global warming but rather a terrible drainage system.

Having to play the game at McDiarmid Park is hardly ideal, but at least a venue has now been locked in. And if there is even a one-per-cent chance of the game at Dens Park being under threat, the SPFL has to step in.

After the poor performance against Ross County, even more pressure is now on the Gers heading into this delayed game in hand.
