Dujon Sterling enjoyed a landmark display in a Rangers shirt in the 2-2 draw with Dundee on Saturday.

The 26-year-old has been tasked with filling the boots of James Tavernier at right-back this season.

For the most part, he's been performing this nigh-on impossible task extremely well.

As a result, Derek McInnes would've had no qualms whatsoever about starting the Englishman there again at Dens Park.

Unfortunately for Sterling, Saturday night was far from his best.

It's not the way he would've hoped to bring up his century of Rangers appearances since moving to Ibrox in 2023.

Why Dujon Sterling was at fault for Dundee's opener vs Rangers

In what was a fairly uneventful first half up until the opening goal, Dundee struck first courtesy of Bradley Fink's 37th-minute finish.

Dundee actually have Sterling to largely thank for this goal, however, as the Rangers fall-back got himself in a mess.

After a long ball was pumped forward from defence, Sterling let Ashley Hay run goalside of him and bring the ball down just outside the box.

The ball momentarily fell back into Sterling's possession, but the Gers defender could only stab the ball back into the box.

Fink gleefully ran onto the loose ball before rounding Ivor Pandur and rolling it into the empty net in composed style.

But was Sterling's performance overshadowed by this one costly mistake, or was it a display that didn't do his big day justice?

How many inaccurate crosses did Sterling deliver vs Dundee?

Being an attacking-minded full-back, Sterling has been an important element of Rangers' gameplan at the other end of the pitch this season.

However, Saturday saw him put in a hugely frustrating performance from this perspective, ensuring he didn't mark his 100th Rangers appearance in fitting fashion.

Per Sofascore, Sterling completed just 78 per cent of his pass attempts successfully, whilst also losing possession 19 times.

He also made just one progressive carry, took zero shots, was accurate with just one of his eight crosses and was dribbled past once.

On top of this, Sterling committed two fouls, made one clearance, two recoveries and won five of his nine ground duels and was booked to boot.

It was the sort of display that makes 200 Rangers appearances feel a very long way in the distance.

Of course, dips in form and performances are natural, and so the challenge for Sterling now is to ensure he bounces back quickly.
