Dujon Sterling claim shared for Rangers v Celtic clash
Kris Boyd believes that Dujon Sterling may start out of position for Rangers against Celtic on Sunday evening.
The Sky Sports pundit sees the Englishman potentially playing at centre-back alongside Leon Balogun, given John Souttar's recent injury setback.
While he has lauded Robin Propper's performances in Europe, he has highlighted his struggles domestically.
Speaking to the Scottish Sun Sport YouTube channel, Boyd said at 6:01: "I think for Dujon Sterling, maybe, I'll throw it out there, maybe we could see him out there at centre-back alongside Leon Balogun. I think Propper, has touched on that, domestically he struggled with the physicality. In Europe, I think he's done really well."
Dujon Sterling at centre-back may be a huge risk for Rangers
Starting Sterling at centre-back against Celtic could be a significant risk, considering he has not played in that position all season.
The 25-year-old has primarily featured at right-back and occasionally in central midfield, showcasing his versatility across the backline and midfield.
While he is also capable of playing left-back, the transition to centre-back requires specific defensive attributes and an understanding of aerial duels and positioning that Sterling has not regularly demonstrated in competitive matches this year.
His lack of experience in this role might expose Rangers defensively, especially against a strong Celtic attack.
If Sterling is to start, it would arguably be more logical to deploy him at right-back, potentially replacing James Tavernier, where his speed and defensive skills could be better utilised.
The physicality and tactical acumen needed at centre-back might be a stretch for him without recent game time in that position.
