James Tavernier managed to rescue a point for Rangers as they drew 2-2 with Dundee United.

However, despite their dominance, they were unable to get a second before Dundee United scored an equaliser through Kristijan Trapanovski. Craig Sibbald then turned the game on its head with a wonderful goal to give the visitors the win.

Then, late into the game, Tavernier popped up with a late goal to ensure that the points were shared.

One of Rangers' poorest players was Djeidi Gassama, who was slammed for one moment in the second half.

Ian McCall: Djeidi Gassama’s defending was awful for Dundee United chance

Despite the concerns surrounding Martin’s tenure, the attacker was one of the few players who continued to perform.

However, against Dundee United, he was woeful, with his assist for Aasgaard’s goal perhaps the only highlight.

Just before the visitors’ equaliser, Dundee United had two quick chances that somehow didn’t hit the back of the net.

  • Gassama was signed from Sheffield Wednesday in the summer
  • The winger made a quick impact at Ibrox, particularly impressing in Europe
  • However, he had a game to forget against Dundee United

Watching on BBC Sportsound on 18 October, Ian McCall was quick to slam Gassama’s defending for the second chance.

He said: “It was a magnificent cross, from Sapsford, and they’ve got unlucky, they’ve tried to get the second ball, and James Tavernier has been too quick for him.

“But Gassama on the edge of his box, it was awful defending, absolutely awful, that led to the second half Dundee United had.”

Rangers’ defending remains dire

Despite there being some clear improvements against Dundee United, Rangers’ defending remained dire.

The visitors could have easily scored four or five goals in the second half, and came close to winning the match at the death.

Whoever comes in for Rangers in the coming weeks, this needs to be their top priority, as it has already lost them countless points this campaign.

If not, the Gers may not even qualify for the Champions League this season.
