Derek McInnes handed Bojan Miovski reality check after Rangers star’s latest North Macedonia display

Rangers star Bojan Miovski had a miserable night as he was taken off with North Macedonia 2-0 down to Switzerland.

The 27-year-old started the UEFA Nations League B group contest at Nacionalna Arena Tose Proeski on Saturday.

He could not help the Lions to get themselves back into the contest, with goals from Remo Freuler and Zeki Amdouni making the difference when he was replaced in the 56th minute.

His showing gives Derek McInnes a reality check that may leave his future selection under question.

The Ibrox boss may have been thinking that Miovski was a genuine option after his calling him a "godsend" after the late strike against St Mirren a few weeks back.

However, his latest display on the international stage shows why McInnes is reluctant to trust him to play regularly for the Light Blues.

Miovski’s impact was extremely limited on a difficult evening for Goce Sedloski’s charges.

The Bears star had just 14 touches in the contest, with none coming in the opposition box, per FotMob data.

He only attempted nine passes, completing 78 per cent, and failed to create a chance for his teammates.

He had one defensive contribution with a tackle, and also recorded one recovery.

Miovski was replaced before the hour mark by Azer Omeragikj, bringing a dismal evening to an end.

Why the international break is vital for Miovski

If Miovski is to work his way into McInnes’ plans, he needs to have a successful international break.

Coming back to Auchenhowie in goalscoring form would do his chances a huge favour, as he would be full of confidence and it would be much harder to justify leaving him on the bench.

He will have a chance to improve his fortunes against Slovenia, Scotland and against the Swiss once again before the break ends and he returns to the Glasgow outfit.

It is absolutely paramount that he takes at least one of those opportunities to make an impression on his club manager.

If not, he will likely find himself behind Kevin Kelsy and Ryan Naderi in the pecking order for the foreseeable future, as the G51 side try to continue their positive momentum in the Scottish Premiership.

As it stands, it looks like a tough task for Miovski, and he will have to settle for small cameo appearances.
