Derek McInnes is already working his magic at Rangers and showing why he is the man for the Bears.

After Danny Rohl left for Red Bull Salzburg, it was evident that Rangers already had their priority to replace him in mind.

A deal to bring McInnes to Ibrox was agreed quite quickly, and his impact is on show throughout pre-season.

Of course, pre-season is more about getting the tactical ideas instilled and improving fitness.

But there are plenty of other things to take away from the games that provide an insight into what to expect.

And Rangers' mentality in matches is one of those as it has become clear over the last couple of games.

The Hearts trend that is now coming to Ibrox

Last season, the Jam Tarts became specialists at coming back from being behind in the Scottish Premiership.

In fact, from their 80 points in the 2025-2026 campaign, 20 of those were after they had originally trailed the game.

Now, in the early days of Rangers' pre-season, they are showing similar signs, and it is no coincidence that McInnes is once again at the fore of it.

In Rangers' first friendly in their Spanish pre-season camp, they came back from one down to draw with Kaizer Chiefs.

Then, after being 2-0 behind against Johor Darul Ta'zim, they were able to claw it back to a 2-2 draw on Thursday.

Although it is pre-season, these signs of this trend emerging is a positive omen for the Bears.

The mentality to turn games on their head will be crucial if they want to push for the Scottish Premiership next season.

What else have we learned from Rangers in pre-season?

One of the other main things gathered from pre-season is the system that McInnes will use at Ibrox.

So far, the Scotsman has opted to use two strikers in the two games against the South African and Malaysian sides.

Additionally, McInnes has been testing out his captaincy options, as a significant decision is still set to be made.

However, Dan Neil has also worn the armband throughout the preparations so far.

Now, after the multiple friendlies behind closed doors, the Bears are set for pre-season games against St. Etienne and West Ham at Ibrox.
