Rangers have had a woeful campaign so far under Russell Martin despite spending heavily in the summer transfer window.

Martin could be close to the sack as fans have protested against his management after a woeful start to his reign.

However, one of the new signings have caught the eye despite the team's struggles, and former Rangers star Derek Ferguson has praised him.

Derek Ferguson praises Djeidi Gassama

Speaking to Glasgow World, Ferguson heaped praise on winger Djeidi Gassama, who has had a very bright start to his career at Ibrox.

"Gassama’s the one, he's the one shining light, he gives you something and he gets balls into the box," Ferguson stated.

"He creates stuff. He can get past people. He excites you"

  • Gassama has scored four times in 13 appearances.
  • All four goals came in the Champions League qualifying games.
  • The winger has provided one assist in the Scottish Premiership.

Gassama has played on both wings so far and has impressed with his speed and flair, while also threatening with several long-range efforts in recent weeks.

Rangers have stuttered in attack, but Gassama has been the one player who has been able to create chances for himself and inject some energy into the team.

Djeidi Gassama needs to play on left wing

Gassama has mostly played on the left wing, but there were several games in which Moore started there and the former Sheffield Wednesday star moved over to the right.

Gassama has to play on the left, which allows him to cut inside onto his right foot, rather than being shunted out to the touchline when on the right.

The French star has been Rangers' most impressive summer signing, with Bojan Miovski also looking bright but suffering as a result of the lack of chance creation under Martin.

Rangers have been poor in both attack and defence, and a change in manager could see some of the other summer signings start to flourish.

Three points are desperately needed at Livingston on Sunday.
