Everton re-appointing David Moyes puts to bed any talk of Rangers pursuing him as Philippe Clement's successor, David Tanner has said.

The talkSPORT presenter posted on X (11 January) after Everton confirmed that they had re-hired Moyes as their new manager following Sean Dyche's sacking, 12 years after he departed for Manchester United.

Moyes had been mooted as a potential option the Ibrox hierarchy could turn to in the event of Clement's own departure, but that option is now off the table with the Belgian edging closer to the sack himself.

Tanner said: "Good move by Everton. That ends the rumours about a move to Ibrox."

Rangers miss out on statement David Moyes appointment

Even with Celtic re-hiring Brendan Rodgers after his successful first spell in Glasgow, you'd be hard-pressed to find the last time a Scottish club hired a manager with European Cup-winning experience.

That's exactly what Moyes has, though, having picked up the UEFA Europa Conference League title with West Ham United in 2023, and making him that much more enticing a candidate for interested clubs.

The Gers, however, have now missed the boat on hiring the 61-year-old, with Everton quickly moving to bring Moyes back to Merseyside less than 48 hours after showing Sean Dyche the door on Thursday.

Things haven't moved quite as quickly at Ibrox, where Clement seemingly stands on the brink following two disappointing draws with Hibernian and Dundee, off the back of his first Old Firm victory over Celtic.

That statement win already seems light years away as the Light Blues revert to type on the road, and despite Moyes being off the market, it remains a case of when, rather than if, Clement is shown the door.
