Dan Neil cost Rangers two points against Dundee in the Scottish Premiership on Saturday.

The midfielder made a major mistake as the Gers led at Dens Park on 17 October.

After Nicolas Raskin gave the Light Blues the lead with a sensational strike, his midfield partner presented the hosts with a gift.

Neil's lack of awareness led to Derek McInnes' team conceding another goal from Callum Jones.

In the first half, Steven Pressley's team were on top of the Light Blues and were unfortunate to go into the break level after Badredine Bouanani's goal.

McInnes half-time talk seemed to have the desired effect on the Glaswegian outfit, but the captain's error put a dent in it.

Dan Neil error comes at unthinkable time for Rangers

Neil's stock at Rangers has risen in recent weeks, but the mistake at Dens Park won't do him any good.

The Gers were on top of Dundee after turning things around in the second half and the individual mistake changed the momentum.

There's no getting away from the fact that the former Sunderland midfielder played a part in the Glaswegian outfit losing two crucial points.

Derek Ferguson couldn't believe Neil's error, especially when it came, given it looked like the Govan side would go in to score more.

Speaking on BBC Sportsound on 17 October, Rob Maclean said, "It's a mistake at the back for Rangers. It's a gift for Dundee. It's a blunder of a pass and Dundee take full advantage."

Ferguson added, "It's Neil who loses his bearings a bit. He's just caught in two minds. I'm a bit shocked because Rangers have been so dominant in the second half. It's an awful mistake."

Rangers player ratings vs Dundee: Badredine Bouanani sensational, 4/10 teammate stinks

Why international break came at wrong time for Derek McInnes

Before the three-week break, Rangers were flying high after beating Celtic back-to-back, with McInnes’ team’s energy infectious.

The Gers had multiple players join their national sides and they’ve clearly returned to Ibrox a bit lethargic.

In the last two matches, the Light Blues have struggled to dominate, with most players unable to maintain their intensity.

While the Glaswegian outfit are managing to get results, the displays won’t be encouraging for supporters in G51.

The defensive stability that the Govan side had found before the break is now nowhere to be seen, with Dujon Sterling and Emmanuel Fernandez involved in a mix-up before Dundee's first goal.

McInnes needs to make the right changes in the upcoming matches to iron out his side's mistakes.
