Daisuke Yokota debut watch: How new Rangers signing had forgettable performance vs Jagiellonia

Daisuke Yokota had an interesting Rangers debut against Jagiellonia Bialystok this Thursday.

The Bears completed the £3.4million signing of the winger this week and were quick to obtain the paperwork, which saw him eligible to play.

Derek McInnes' side travelled to Poland to face the hosts at the Chorten Arena in the first leg of their Europa League qualification tie, which they fell to a 2-1 defeat in.

The defence was once again suspect, Emmanuel Fernandez in particular coming under fire for his slip that allowed Kajetan Smit to score his second in the first half.

There were not many positives to take from performances in the final third, with perhaps further additions yet to arrive at Ibrox to help strengthen the attack.

Yokota had his first start in the match, and after 45 minutes of play time for Rangers, the early verdict is out.

There are high hopes in Govan for Yokota after a multi-million-pound move to the Bears.

The Japanese forward is the perfect example of how clubs in the UK have identified Asian wingers as a new specific market filter in recent years, with many having success after moving to England and Scotland.

However, McInnes made the decision to hook the 26-year-old at halftime, and it's clear to see why.

Yokota lacked any real presence for Rangers, particularly in attack, as he didn't offer much of a direct threat.

Any time the former Hannover star got in forward areas, he would slow down play and look for teammates to create from the edge of the box.

He was beaten by Smit, which allowed the winger to curl home a suspected cross for the hosts' first goal of the contest, which set the Bears up for the downfall that was to follow.

By no means is the performance on Yokota, but he had plenty of time in the first 45 to impose himself on the match.

It will hopefully just take the right-winger a few more weeks to settle in Govan before the Gers see the best of him, especially given he had zero training sessions before.

However, his replacement made their stake to start.

Findlay Curtis sent Derek McInnes clear message vs Jagiellonia Bialystok

Findlay Curtis was the man to replace Yokota at the break, and he was quick to make his impact on the game.

The 19-year old came narrowly close to helping his side back level before the hour mark, but his effort just flashed past the post.

The teen was constantly looking to do something when on the ball, and possessed the fearlessness that Rangers needed in the Polish cauldron, striking the base of the post late on.

McInnes may have seen enough from Curtis, and could give him a deserved start either in the return fixture at Ibrox or on Sunday against Hibernian.
