Steven Thomson was left thrilled by what he saw Rangers defender James Tavernier do against Celtic on Sunday.

Barry Ferguson managed his first ever Old Firm derby at Parkhead on 16 March.

The game ended x-y in favour of the hosts/visitors after a thrilling 90 minutes.

Nico Raskin and James Tavernier lauded for the opening goal for Rangers

Tavernier set up Nico Raskin for the opening goal and stunned the Parkhead crowd - sending the away fans into raptures.

Gers started the game positively and certainly deserved their lead with the captain and vice captain combining for the goal.

Raskin managed to slot the ball into the back of the net well but the delivery is what Thomson was raving about.

He said on BBC Radio Scotland at 12:37pm: "The delivery's absolutely brilliant.

"Celtic will be wondering how Nico Raskin got a flick on that, the height that he is.

"We thought that Rangers had started well, well they certainly have now."

Celtic Park stunned as their Glasgow counterparts put in a spirited performance

Nobody thought that Rangers would start the game in the manner they did and absolutely play their rivals off the park.

The fans in attendance aren't used to seeing their side getting bullied at home and the expectation was a routine victory over their rivals.

However, Ferguson proved that he masterminded a solid performance as he ensured that most if not all his players were up for it.

The way they started the first half was incredible and the only criticism of the first half was that they did not score more goals.

Scoring twice was incredible and if Ferguson had to prove he deserves the job full time, he certainly did a great job.

If the club go deep into the Europa League and possibly even win the competition, very few will be able to argue against him getting the job on a permanent basis.
