Cavenagh ready to name new Rangers manager after final round of talks

Andrew Cavenagh and Paraag Marathe have reportedly held their final round of talks to complete their first managerial hire as Rangers owners.

On Friday, it was announced that the US consortium had completed their takeover at Ibrox.

After Philippe Clement was sacked in February and followed up by Barry Ferguson in an unsuccessful interim stint until the end of the season, Cavenagh and Marathe's first priority is to hire a new full-time Rangers manager.

Their new man will receive huge financial backing from the American businessmen, who are ready to plough £20million into the Ibrox coffers.

Davide Ancelotti happy to accept Rangers manager's job

Davide Ancelotti has reportedly told Rangers he's ready to become their new manager after considering his future while on holiday last week.

After serving as an assistant manager to his father Carlo for the majority of his coaching career, the Daily Record reports on Saturday (31 May) that the 35-year-old is ready to carve his own path at Ibrox.

Former Rangers defender Russell Martin is also a contender for the job and it is understood that it's a straight shoot-out between the pair after Steven Gerrard removed himself from the running last week.

The Light Blues' new owners, and incoming sporting director Kevin Thelwell, are now set to decide on who they want in charge in the next few days before naming him to the masses.

Who is Davide Ancelotti?

Born in Parma, Italy in 1989, Ancelotti has been a part of one of the most successful coaching teams in the last decade.

Since 2016, he's worked alongside Carlo Ancelotti on his coaching teram at Bayern Munich, Napoli, Everton and Real Madrid.

Davide Ancelotti had a brief playing career that started with AC Milan before he joined Borgomonero in the lower reaches of Italian football.

At the age of 22, he retired and gained a degree in sports science.

After fitness coach roles at Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid, Ancelotti acquired his UEFA A License and became an assistant coach at Bayern Munich in 2016.

Ancelotti then went on to help his father win league titles at Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, as well as two Champions Leagues at the Bernabeu.
