The Belgian FA may wait until Rangers potentially sack Philippe Clement before making a move for the manager, according to Foot News.

The Belgian outlet reported on 18 November that with the KBVB seeing Clement as a "serious option" to potentially replace Domenico Tedesco in the national management job, they may prefer to wait.

Sacking Tedesco would mean the Belgian FA having to pay the Italian hefty compensation, as would buying Clement out of his contract.

While Clement has retained the backing of the Ibrox boardroom – at least what's left of it – until now, the coming weeks could prove crucial in deciding if is the man to lead a long-term rebuilding of the club.

The Scottish League Cup Final against Celtic will be the biggest test with Clement failing to win an Old Firm game in five attempts so far, while there's also a nine-point chasm to claw back in the Premiership.

Rangers' poor start to the new season has raised questions about Philippe Clement's future prospects

If Clement is unable to show signs that his new-look Light Blues are capable of catching up to Celtic and Aberdeen at the summit, he could well be shown the door, with some fans already keen to see him leave.

This would be music to Belgium's ears, who, with no international breaks until March 2025, will be happy to see Tedesco's contract tick down before pulling the trigger and appointing Clement in his place.

It remains to be seen which of the Gers or the Belgian FA will jump the shark first, but if the Ibrox hierarchy decides enough is enough, don't expect Clement to be out of a job for long.
