BBC journalist spots ‘awareness’ from Player of the Match Abdallah Sima in Rangers 2-0 win v St Mirren
Rangers attacker Abdallah Sima knew the pressure that the club were under after his goals against St Mirren, according to BBC Sport journalist Sean McGill.
The forward netted both goals as the Gers won the Scottish Premiership clash 2-0 at Ibrox on Sunday (3 December).
Sima, who is on loan from Premier League club Brighton, now has 11 goals from his 25 appearances in all competitions this season.
“Sima’s reaction at both goals shows an awareness of the pressure Rangers were under,” McGill wrote for BBC Sport (3 December), naming him as the Player of the Match. “The striker’s well-taken goals were the difference on a day few others looked like stepping up.”
Key man
Sima was undoubtedly the key man at Ibrox on Sunday, with the on-loan forward producing the two standout moments to secure a vital three points.
Midfield ace Todd Cantwell was also crucial against Stephen Robinson’s men, having assisted Sima on both occasions.
It was by no means the perfect display from the hosts, but manager Philippe Clement will be happy with two goals and a clean sheet.
Sima has certainly stepped up to the mark since making the temporary switch from England to Scotland, with the Seagulls man definitely among the best signings from former manager Michael Beale.
The forward, alongside goalkeeper Jack Butland, has impressed at Ibrox, but the same cannot be said for the other arrivals during the summer transfer window.
Clement will want the likes of Cyriel Dessers, Danilo and Sam Lammers to chip in with some goals, but if Sima can keep finding the back of the net to clinch wins then the manager won’t have too many complaints.
