Barry Ferguson shares 'only disappointment' for Rangers after back-to-back Old Firm wins

Barry Ferguson has been massively impressed by what he has seen from Rangers in the past few weeks.

After a dreadful start for Derek McInnes, which included being eliminated from a couple of European competitions, Rangers have recovered well.

The Gers have won six in a row in all competitions, most recently beating Celtic 1-0 away from home.

That came a week on from beating the same opposition 3-0 at Ibrox in the Premier Sports Cup quarter-finals.

With a cup semi-final on the horizon, plus Celtic now just two points in front, momentum is very much with McInnes' side.

But the extended international break may well have come at a bad time.

Rangers have 20 days between the win over Celtic and the a visit from Kilmarnock at Ibrox on 10 October.

If Rangers fans had their way, that Kilmarnock game would have been the day after the Old Firm win, so high were supporters on excitement.

And that is something Ferguson admits is the one down side of this strong run of form coming when it did.

Speaking live on Sky Sports News on Friday afternoon, Ferguson said: "We all know what it's like up here - the demands and expectations can be tough; it's easy to drown in it.

"That's the thing I've been impressed by with this young squad. They've stood up to it with some really strong performances. The only disappointment is the international break has come at the wrong time.

"But that allows them to go away, reflect, rest up and hopefully come back in the same mood as the international break started."

Why October could already be make-or-break time for Rangers

Every match is hugely important for Rangers given the fine margins involved in the title race.

Lose one game and it is a disaster; win a few on the spin and everything is fine and dandy.

But October really does seem likely a hugely important month for McInnes' men

It starts with the visit of Kilmarnock, and it really is imperative the Gers hit the ground running in that one.

A no-nonsense seventh win in a row would ensure Rangers hit the ground running.

There is then a trip to Dundee and a visit from St Johnstone, before concluding the month away at Hearts.

Nobody is expecting 12 points from 12, but now is the time to lay down a marker and get in front of Celtic before the next break in a month's time.
