Rangers are out to continue their upward trajectory against Dundee on Saturday.

Derek McInnes' side are riding the crest of a wave in the Scottish Premiership right now.

The Gers have racked up seven straight wins across all competitions, with six of those coming in the league.

On Saturday, McInnes takes his side to Tayside for a tricky encounter against Steven Pressley's men at Dens Park.

With Celtic hosting Hearts on Sunday, Rangers are sensing a real opportunity to apply some pressure on their two main rivals for the title.

Former captain and ex-interim manager Barry Ferguson is confident Rangers can get the job done, even if he expressed one "nagging doubt".

Barry Ferguson has seen a shift in Rangers this season

Rangers have been chasing Celtic for several seasons now, but the momentum feels like it could be shifting in Glasgow.

Indeed, Ferguson - who won 15 major honours as a player with the Gers - thinks the mentality of the squad has definitely shifted with what he has seen of the team this season.

As such, he thinks a team that is showing plenty of steel and mettle will get the job done in what looks a tricky contest on paper.

However, he concedes there is an element of doubt because of the job Pressley is doing with Dundee, who are fourth in the standings.

Ferguson backed McInnes' men to get the job on Sunday, though, with victory taking Rangers top of the table.

Writing for the Daily Record, Ferguson opined: "I’m starting to see signs of a very different Rangers side this season.

"And, while I never like to be complacent or overly confident, let’s just say I’m feeling much more relaxed and calm about their prospects travelling up to Tayside on Saturday night.

"I think, for the first time in a long time, this Rangers team is physically and mentally ready to go to places like that now.

"You’ve always got that nagging doubt in the back of your mind and you certainly have to respect Dundee because Big Elvis has got them flying and playing some really good stuff already this season in spite of a number of injuries.

"But I’m just not as worried about it as I might have been before because, if it turns into a bit of a battle, I know that this set of players will be able to handle it."

Rangers can make big statement vs Dundee

Just a couple of months ago there were some who were doubting if McInnes would even seen Halloween as Rangers manager.

The turnaround since has been fantastic, but there is absolutely no sense of complacency from McInnes or the backroom figures at Ibrox.

Right now, Rangers feel like a team on the up, but we're only midway through October, there is an awful lot of football to be played.

We have seen false dawns with Rangers before, but this feels different, it feels like the start of something.

Rangers have to prove it on the pitch, though, and these are the sort of opportunities that they just cannot pass up.

Victory over Dundee would put real pressure on Celtic ahead of their clash with Hearts, its' a chance they cannot pass up.
