Andy Walker poses challenge Rangers must answer after what Derek McInnes said

Rangers built some massive momentum prior to the first international break of the season.

The Gers made a disappointing start to the campaign, which saw Derek McInnes' men knocked out of Europe completely.

But since then, Rangers have racked up six straight victories in all competitions and are flying.

That included consecutive Old Firm victories over Celtic, a 3-0 Scottish League Cup quarter-final win backed up by a 1-0 triumph in the Scottish Premiership.

Rangers are consequently just two points adrift of Celtic at the top of the table, and aiming to kick on again after the international break.

Former Celtic player Andy Walker now thinks Rangers have a challenge to meet after something he heard McInnes say.

Rangers told what they have to do next

There was genuine pressure building on McInnes after a disappointing start to the campaign.

Hired during the summer following Danny Rohl's hasty exit, McInnes endured a turbulent opening amid a backdrop of a huge squad rebuild.

But Rangers fans are being won over by a fine run of results, exemplified by those two Old Firm victories.

Rangers face Kilmarnock, Dundee, St Johnstone, and McInnes' former employers Hearts in the league in October.

Walker thinks Rangers have to show they can keep putting a string of wins together, particularly given McInnes has stressed how young his squad is.

Speaking on the Go Radio Football Show, Walker said: "The biggest thing for me in the last two weeks was just the dominance of Rangers, neither game was close.

"I thought Rangers absolutely battered Celtic at Ibrox and I thought they were streets ahead at Parkhead, so I think that tells you a lot about the type of football (Rangers) can play.

"I think it tells me that Celtic have got a lot way to go to get back to winning ways. You always credit the winning team and Rangers were by far the better side on both weekends.

"The only thing I would say, and I've heard it from Derek McInnes, he talks about his young team, his young squad, young teams and young squads tend to have a little hiccup.

"And I think it will be interesting now to see what do Rangers do now in the next six weeks, the next six Scottish Premiership games.

"Can they get 18 points, can they really go on a run that would really tell everyone else their really serious about having the consistency to win a Scottish Premiership title."

Rangers have to prove their mettle

It's not lost on McInnes, his squad, or any Rangers supporter than the pressure is on to prove the last two games were no fluke.

Getting up for a game against Celtic should be easy, and this squad has to show they can get up for any game.

There feels a real opportunity to put the foot on the gas now, and show just how good this team can be.

The togetherness that has been so evident in recent weeks is something Rangers have to use moving forward.

But at the same time they cannot take their eyes on the prize, or prizes. Stay focused, look to the next game, keep winning.
