Rangers fans have every right to protest against Russell Martin after what's been an abysmal season so far.

The Gers are 11th in the William Hill Premiership after their worst start to a league campaign since 1978, and supporters are demanding a change in the dugout.

Andrew Cavenagh must be aware of the fury among the Ibrox faithful as he watched the Light Blues beat Hibernian in the Premier Sports Cup quarter-final at home, with protests being held outside before kick-off.

Derek Ferguson believes fan power could potentially force Martin's sacking, and they may have just given the American owners reason to reconsider their faith in the Scottish manager.

Rangers fans set to boycott Rangers vs Genk at Ibrox

As things stand, a lot of seats are still available as the Gers face Genk at home in the Europa League on 25 September.

A Light Blues fan, RFC Michael, shared an image of seat availability at Ibrox, with around 200 tickets still available in most sections of the stadium.

With the general sale already underway, the US consortium will undoubtedly be concerned about the prospect of not generating enough matchday revenue.

It wouldn't be surprising to see Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises change their tune on Martin as supporters' actions are hitting the Glaswegian outfit's pockets.

Russell Martin has no way back at Ibrox

Martin may be at a point of no return at Ibrox, with the former Southampton boss fighting for his job in every fixture from here on out.

The Scottish manager has dampened some of the noise around his future after beating Hibs, but things could change in an instant.

It feels almost inevitable that the Glaswegian outfit will replace the 39-year-old head coach, but it remains to be seen who will be appointed in the dugout next.

  • Martin has a 30 per cent win rate at the Gers.
  • The Scottish manager has failed to win any league game this season.
  • The ex-Saints boss wasn't the most popular choice in G51 before being appointed.

Steven Gerrard feels like the perfect option for Rangers, considering his previous success in G51.

The Gers have ended their 10-year wait for a league title under the Liverpool icon, and fans will undoubtedly forgive him for leaving midway through the season to join Aston Villa.

With supporters making their feelings about Martin known in no uncertain terms, the situation in G51 will be one to watch closely.
